Upstate Lakes
Lake Keowee
Lake Keowee is the sister lake of Lake Jocassee. The lake is part of the Keowee-Toxaway
project finished in 1973 by Duke Energy Corporation. At 18,500 acres, Lake Keowee
is more than twice the size of Lake Jocassee. Another major difference between
Keowee and Jocassee is the amount of development on the shoreline. There are many
lakefront subdivisions located on this lake, and plenty more are being sold. The
lake has a scenic mountain view with many beautiful homes on its shore. The water
is clear but not as clear as the water in Lake Jocassee. Scuba diving is also
possible at this lake, but the water depths are not as deep as in Lake Jocassee.
There are about a dozen boat ramps, two marinas, four parks, and one bait &
tackle store located on the lake.
Keowee Key
Nestled in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, alongside South Carolina's
18,000 acre Lake Keowee, is one of the premier residential communities in the
Southeast, Keowee Key. Almost 1,000 feet above sea level, this area is blessed with a temperate climate:
long spring and fall seasons, mild winters and moderate summers. Keowee Key is
designed for the physically active with golf, tennis, fitness center and boating
within the community and numerous hiking trails and over 250 waterfalls throughout
the area. Keowee Key is convenient to both Anderson and Greenville and within
a two-hour drive to Atlanta and Charlotte.
Lake Hartwell
One of the Southeast's largest lakes and most popular public recreation lakes,
Lake Hartwell's nearly 56,000 acres of water provide many recreation opportunities.
There are numerous natural sand beaches along the 962-mile shoreline in addition
to campgrounds, recreation areas and boat access areas. Hartwell borders Georgia
and South Carolina on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers.
Lake Jocassee
Lake Jocassee is located in the upstate of South Carolina in a pristine mountain
environment. Lake Jocassee has crystal clear water and huge depths. It is a perfect
lake for boating, skiing, fishing, and any other water activities you can imagine.
Around the lake, there is very little development and most of the surrounding
land is untouched by man.
